The Wage Shop

So, have you gone with the tradition of making New Year’s Resolutions?

It is said that Julius Caesar started the tradition of making resolutions on the first day of the new year.  This was a way to honour the mythical Roman god Janus, whose two faces allowed him to look back into the past year and forward to the new year. So, on the 31st December this was what the Romans imagined, and it became a symbolic time for them.

They also believed that Janus could forgive their wrongdoings for the past year.  The Romans would give gifts and make new promises for the year ahead, believing that Janus would see this and bless them for the new year ahead.

As we enter the New Year and a new decade, maybe it’s time to make a difference, starting with a clean slate!! It could be the perfect time to reflect on the past year and look forward to the next.

Many people like to think they will stick to their new year resolutions.  It is always best to make realistic goals rather than one that are so hard which you’ll likely get bored of after a few days.

The most popular resolutions made are:

  • Lose weight
  • Exercise more
  • Just generally eat healthier
  • Make more time for friends and family
  • Give up smoking
  • Spend less money
  • Take up a new hobby
  • Donate to charity more often
  • Spend less time on social media
  • Be kinder to people

Hopefully some of these will be changes that you make for life, not just for the next twelve months.

Whether you choose to make New Year Resolutions or not The Wage Shop would like to wish all our contractors and agencies all the very best for 2020.
